University of Kassel, Germany

The University of Kassel was founded in 1971 as a reform college. At the moment round about 17000 students are registered. The University offers with 11 faculties a wide range of studies and further education. Over 320 Professors teach in the competence fields like nature, technique, art and society.

General Information

The faculty of electrical engineering and computer science offers future oriented and praxis oriented studies with the main focus on energy systems engineering, computer science, communication technology and measurement and control systems. In the 22 departments of the faculty about 200 employees are working.

At the department of Embedded Systems, headed by Prof. Vogel-Heuser, work about ten research assistants, one lab engineer, two Fachinformatiker, two apprentices Fachinformatiker and one secretary.

The focus of the research area includes

  • Analysis and modeling of the workflow for the development of a continuous engineering concept
  • Reduction of complexity with new engineering tools
    • Modeling of hybrid processes with various description methods
      • Comparative evaluations of description methods for control programming
      • Development and adaptation of methods for software specification for distributed real time systems for process automation (UML-PA)
      • Automated code generation (from UML for IEC 61131-39)
  • Reduction of complexity with agents
  • Reduction of complexity with 3D-Visualisation
