General Information

The University of Education Freiburg (in German “Pädagogische Hochschule Freiburg”, or “PH Freiburg” for short) was founded in 1962 and gained university status in 1971. With approximately 4,000 students, it is the largest of six Universities of Education in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg as a part of Germany.

The PH-Freiburg is specialized in teacher training for primary and lower secondary school teachers. Also the PH started in 2005 in cooperation with the Hochschule Offenburg to offer a program to become a teacher for Vocational Education and Training (VET). The field of the VET program combine in each case Bachelor and Master studies in:

  • Computer Science / Economic Science
  • Electrical Engineering / Communication Technology
  • Mechatronics
  • Media Technology / Economic Science
  • Electrical Energy Technology / Physics
  • At the moment (5/2013) we have about 250 VET students over all. For the future we are planing to reach 400 Bachelor and 120 Master students
